On Thursday, August 16, 2012 URW Community Federal Credit Union realized the fruition of a dream at the groundbreaking for our new 8,800-square-foot main office at 314 Lowes Drive in Danville.
The new office will embrace a retail environment featuring dialog banking to further develop strong financial partnerships and provide first-class service to our members. Tellers will be equipped to help members with a variety of needs, from loans to simple transactions.
The new branch interior will offer living-room style seating in the waiting area, as well as a café. Celebrating the local area, a community wall will feature URW people and places and a large display area will allow local businesses to display their own products and services.
A whimsical children’s area plays on the history of URW with a tire swing, relating back to our Goodyear plant heritage and other embellishments. URW is also providing a community room available to employees, members and local organizations. The room, equipped with a Smart Board and adjacent kitchen, can be used for training, staff meetings, community organizations or special events.
The establishment of this new full-service financial branch represents a long-term commitment to the individuals, families and businesses that have supported URW. The design of our building celebrates the community by showcasing the elements of the River City.
In 1970, members of United Rubber Workers Local 831 combined their savings and began URW 831 Members Federal Credit Union.
Forty years later, URW is one of the largest independent, not-for-profit financial institutions in Virginia. Today, URW Community Federal has 5 locations, more than $94 million dollars in assets and nearly 15,000 members.
